JOB DESCRIPTION Duties: As a member of the Coastal Environment Field services team in Environmental Risk Management, provides environmental support services to all BC Hydro lines of business: Provides expertise, recommendations and leadership to respond to emerging environmental issues and allocation of resources having a bearing on regional and corporate environmental objectivesDiagnose environmental problems, assess the risks, identify and recommend solutions, and coordinate action utilizing environmental specialists and managersCoordinates the delivery of environmental services and environmental risk management to the regionLiaises, consults, and negotiates with government agencies, First Nations, environmental interest groups, the public and related corporate specialist departmentsAssesses environmental training needs, develops, and coordinates the delivery of environmental training to heighten environmental awareness and provide skills and knowledge to regional employees and managersCoordinates and administers current environmental policies, standards and initiatives; identifies risks and recommends solutions to new policy and standards proposals by CorporateImplements new policies, standards, and initiatives for regional useProvides technical advice, leadership, and instructions to field personnel in the event of emergency environmental problemsContinues to foster solid working relationships with DFO and MOE personnel throughout the region by focusing on optimum environmental solutions and providing an understanding of BC Hydro business and policiesActs as environmental lead for a large volume of capital and maintenance projects with varying degrees of complexity throughout the Province (www.****.com., duct bank placements, pole renewals, bridge and culvert replacements, substation upgrades, generating station upgrades, spill studies, river crossings, bank stabilization, channel enhancement, submarine cable replacements)Participates in hiring, supervising, and managing performance of assigned staff; hires consultants and contractors to undertake specific studies and tasks and ensures their contribution meets requirements on time and on budgetPrepares technical status reports, administers budgets, controls schedules and reviews and interprets reports prepared by others. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Science or Applied Science plus a master's degree in Resource Management or Environmental ScienceMinimum of eight (8) years of experience in progressively more responsible positions in the environmental field or an equivalent combination of education and experienceProfessional designation RPBio, RPF an assetA general knowledge of and experience with the electrical utility industry, environmental regulatory agencies, and environmental acts and regulationsA strong background in aquatic and terrestrial impacts and mitigation relating to electric utility operations is desiredBroad technical and working knowledge of environmental (pollution prevention, hazardous waste, aesthetics) and natural resource (fisheries, wildlife, forestry, land use planning) disciplinesStrong writing, listening, and verbal communications skills and effective interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and remotely hiking over variable terrain with limited supervisionSound analytical, organizational, and time management skillsAbility to work in the field doing on-site research and investigationExperience with First Nation and regulatory issues management is an assetMust be fluent in MS Office applicationsMust possess a valid driver's license with no restrictions: Class 5 How to Apply Interested candidates should submit their applications online by April 1, 2013.
